Brand Positioning

Part of Brand storytelling for direct response

Connecting a brand narrative to a concrete next step

Choose a call to action that follows the story, then check that the destination delivers the information or task it promises.

End a response story with an action that fits what the audience has learned. If the story introduces an unfamiliar product, invite people to inspect it. If it already explains the offer and its terms, an enquiry or purchase may be appropriate. The destination should let someone do what the call to action promises.

Choose the action from the remaining question

Ask what a person still needs after the story:

Remaining question / Possible next step

How does it work or fit?
View the demonstration or specifications
Is it available to me?
Check availability
Which option suits me?
Compare options
How do I proceed?
Request a quote or start an order

A short button label is useful only if the destination makes the task clear.

In a fictional modular-shelving ad, someone changes a layout as storage needs change. “See the module sizes” could lead to dimensions and compatibility details. “Buy now” may ask for a decision before the person has that information. The right action depends on the real offer and page.

Make the destination deliver

Follow the action as a visitor would. Does the button reach the promised information? Is the relevant product visible?

Are price, eligibility and other material conditions clear before someone commits? Check that the landing page matches the ad and makes the promised action clear.

If installation is included only in certain areas, state that condition clearly where it affects the offer. The ACCC can require businesses to back up claims they make about their products or services.

A short bridge can connect the final product moment to the action: “See the sizes and choose a layout”, for example. Check the ad and destination together on a phone. Ask a reader what they expect the click to do, then see whether the page fulfils that expectation.
